After eating "40 Quetzales Footlongs" at a Guatemalan Subway, the team was able to get into the gym for a short practice on Sunday before the game against the National Team. It felt as if all eyes were on us the moment we entered the gym, and all the players and fans that were at the gym for an afternoon game stayed to watch us practice. It took some getting used to the dimensions of an international basketball court, and we did our best to adjust as quickly as we could. The game started at 6 o'clock, and our tour was officially about to begin. The national team was very strong and physical, and it was clear they have been playing together for a long time. They ranged in ages from early 20's to their late 30's. We dropped the matchup 79-73 despite making a 2nd half run to cut into a 20 point deficit. After the game, both teams gathered together and John Michael was able to share his testimony via a translator. He did a great job conveying that there is something in our lives that fulfills us more than basketball ever could, and challenged them to consider the free gift of eternal life through Jesus Christ. After the game we showered and went to the Taco Inn to get some quality Guatemalan grub. I think I speak on behalf of the team when I say that if you are ever in Guatemala City, go to the Taco Inn because if not for anything else, they serve Squirt soda! It is amazing to think we all just came together eight days ago. The amount we have grown on and off the court is truly amazing, as I have come to have a real appreciation for all these guys. It is such an encouragement to me to be part of a team with guys who are all pursuing the Lord. God Bless!
