Hypocrisy in sports
As I listened to Mike & Mike in the Morning on ESPN this morning I heard all the outrage of the Philadelphia Eagles signing Michael Vick. We all know the despicable crimes that he committed with the dog fighting, but I was thinking, “what a bunch of hypocrites” are those who would not give Vick a second chance at a career and life. He has served his time and paid his penalties.
I say “hypocrites” because if they were in his position or if their children committed the crimes and served the time, they would want a second chance. They would want a chance to earn a living and provide for their family. They would want to work at jobs they love. But since it is “some other guy” they are ready to cast him away. And when I think about it, I wouldn’t be surprised if many of them flip-flop if he should happen to lead the team to a championship. They would quickly forget about their issues with him because it benefits their team.
I’m so gratefully that God does not listen to people in the stands when it comes to forgiveness and salvation. God has His good and perfect standard that He equally holds everyone to, and no public opinion will sway Him. We know that if we repent of our sins and ask for His forgiveness that He will give it to us. It does not matter if you are a dog fighter, alcoholic, tax evader or whatever. Whenever we are ready to turn to Him and repent, God will be waiting for us unconditionally.
This is just one man’s thoughts. What are your thoughts on this?
